Specializing in everything Microsoft SQL Server
My name is Jakob Bindslet, I am an Independent IT Consultant working with Microsoft SQL Server as a database administrator, architect and teacher. I am based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
I have 30 years experience as an IT profesional - the last 20 years as a database administrator and architect. I have worked with every version of SQL Server from 7.0 to SQL Server 2025, as well as a host of other associated technologies and tools.
Where did my database go? Did someone delete it?
Would you like to know that your backup are recent and tested?
Does everyone have access to everything? Payroll? Production?
Could your control of permissions be tighter? Maybe you need to achieve or test your compliance?
Are the developers testing in production? Is the test environment nothing like production?
Would an always up-to-date testing environment help you?
I can assist your company with operational or strategic IT advice or get involved with the day to day issues surrounding your SQL Server setup or future plans. I aim to insure that you are getting the maximum return from your IT investment in a safe and robust way.
Some of the services I provide are:
Who accessed the confidential database? When did that table change? Who changed the customer database?
Would an audit trail help?
Are you prepared for a disk crash? A server failure? What happens if someone accidentally drop the wrong table in production?
Is your database always available? Do you have a plan for disaster recovery?
The database is slow again. Is a backup running? A big report? Or is it just monday again?
Would you like to know why your database is slow? Make it run faster?
Examples and cases
Self Service Databases
I worked with a medium size company to create to develop an easy way for their developers to request databases for development and testing purposes. The end result was setup requiring no extra tools or investments, while providing the developers an easy, yet flexible API to request databases, and have them delivered in seconds. This enabled the developers to do better testing and and delivery fast quality products to the business.
Testing of emergency procedures
A small startup in Copenhagen had just barely recovered from a major incident in which a number of very unlucky factor came close to closing their business.
I worked with them to analyze their database setup, in order to create an improved backup setup as well as a robust disaster plan. While to company didn't have the size or need for their own full time database administrator, I created a two day bootcamp for a few key personnel in the company, to give them a better in depth understanding of the need, benefits and limitations of an SQL Server database, all based on the specific needs of their company.
